Being and Non-Being

Between Nothingness and Eternity

"What was it before that?".God  Was  in nothingness and His Throne was on the water, so asked one of the prophet’s disciples, and so answered the seal of messengers. The Issue of being and non–being is not  settled neither by  mind nor philosophy nor science and even the revelation did not unfold it for us .It is one of the dilemmas that preoccupied the philosophers ’minds and emptied their pens throughout the ages. It is one of the big questions and issues such as who created us  , why we are here, and  whether we are destined  or not ; If we are  destined  to engage in our actions, how that is reconciled with the  divine justice and accountability at the Judgment Day ? And If we have free will, how that is  consistent with  the eternal and unitary God Almighty? Man is composed of a body and a spirit , and as long as the body is annihilated ,so it is not eternal but accidental . But the urgent question is  whether the soul  is created and made as it is by God? . If so, is not this  inconsistent with God's justice as He brings  it  back again and asks it for what it has done in this world ? And if it is  not created and its works are not dictated to it by God , how that can be reconciled  with God who is known as the Omnipotent and Omniscient  who has no partners with him being the one and only  doer in the universe ? .. There are some insights introduced by knowledgeable people of mysticism in being and nothingness which can be prefaced by  intuitive propositions as follows: (1) God is perfect  ,absolute  and  is always just(2) So, God does not force  humans  to do something  against their wills (3) So, the soul , and not flesh,   which is  the abode of the   rational will has eternal wills and desires  not dictated any more by God  with the meaning that it has eternal and fixed natures and this  not only pertains to the spirit, but also to  everything in existence . Long ago, Leibniz the German  philosopher  said "God is   absolute perfection, then that entails that he brings to existence  as many beings as possible ...Verily  , if  there are  many verses from the Holy Quran  which emphasizes  that  God  is the real doer , such as "and thrown as surrender, but Allah threw," "Say It's all in God's hands", "and God with you wherever you are " , then  how can we reconcile the shot which is an act preceded by a reasonable will and   the fact  that God  has already shot the arrow ?! .... Almighty God, Glory to Him ,  does not direct or  stir our intentions and  what we call the will of the soul and conscience! .  The  knowledgeable ascetics said  that all “ possibilities” were eternal objects  or truths in nothingness and had certain   properties as those betrayed   lack for God and absolute submission to Him to get it out of nothingness , which is the worst of  all ,  into existence. All possibilities, what was  and what is  and what  will be,  have fixed eternal natures in  nothingness. The nothingness is not non-existent as  the eternal absolute God must be counterparted by nothingness  which is nothing only to us  not to God with whom  the nothingness has a submissive humiliated dialogue  so that God may rid it of  the humiliation and poverty  of non-existence. Thus , the natures of  beings are eternal  meaning that what they are ,is not made or caused by God   ; otherwise , God compels them to assume natures which are not themselves  and that is impossible to pertain to God the perfect and just . The Devil, for example,  had the nature of  arrogance on his nothingness and the fact that God  knows the unseen  does not mean He  forced  the Satan to take this certain haughty nature. There are many of the gloomy black natures which do not plead   asking  presence ,so  they remain non-existent.  I have said before that there is nothing worse than “ non being “ and if you ,reader , doubt about what I say ,then I ask you to meditate about  your” being  as “ non being “.I think you cannot imagine what terrible idea it is  !! . So , all the existents , including us , are barred from the abyss of going  back to our origins in nothingness only with God ‘s always providing us with the attribute of existence .Let us  suppose that  electricity went out suddenly, would the picture remain there ? .Suppose your contact with your mirror has stopped ,would   a picture of  you be there ? God has  manifested, and still manifests, not through his “ Person “but through His attributes  like , capacity, and knowledge, hearing, and sight .. etc. in the existents  so that they may not revert to nothingness  again  . It  is not said ,for instance , when you  manifest yourself  in the mirror that you are inside it  and this is the same thing with God when He reflects His attributes  in us .In addition ,  your manifestation in the various mirrors differ according to the purity and quality of the mirror itself  ; your manifestation is the same with the dark ,semi-dark and polished mirrors .Every mirror reflects your picture  according to the extent of readiness and purity of the mirror itself .The same  analogy pertains to  God,Glory to Him , as He manifests His attributes in the existents  in as much as they are ready to receive  them  .This explanation answers such  puzzling  baffling questions concerning the One and Only  and the Plurality He has produced  exactly as the ascetic poet   said ,"the face in mirror is but one ** but if multiplied mirrors, they became more  "  . From here came the wrong saying of Ibn Arabi  namely, that God needs us as we need him as  he gives us presence and we make His qualities working!!. Almighty God is  much richer than to need us  and it’s we  who lack to Him ; as they  are there and valid whether He created us or not .He  could only grant us  the  qualities we have  because He had them eternally and   whether  He manifested to us the  qualities we have or not , He still posses them . The  Almighty is still providing us constantly and permanently with existence  at successive durations . The  relationship between God and His Universe may be analogous to man‘s body and his   soul  in that man ‘s soul cannot be inside or clothed with the body or separated from it .Otherwise , the soul  can be reduced  in case some of the body’s organs are amputated   or dreams would not  have come to man in slumber  in case the soul is wholly  separated from the body ; in other words , you may deprive a person of his feet and his arms and one of his lungs  , and he is still alive knows and feels .etc.. .The same relation pertains to God with His universe ; He is neither  aloof from His creations  nor identified with them as  Spinoza claimed  in” Pantheism” and as believed by some Indians so that ,as they claim,  every idea  that arises  in  mind is His idea and all  corporeal things  you are parts of Him . God is not the world ,but God is in constant contact with it. At last, God grant us the action to carry out our own wills ; for example , if you have the “volition “to hit an enemy of yours , then  God says to you: THIS IS MY HAND ,SO HIT WITH IT , and if you want to caress  a head of  an orphan , God says : TAKE MY HAND CARESS WITH  IT….
